DIY Mother’s Day Gifts

DIY Mother’s Day Gifts

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and finding that perfect gift for mom is never easy.  So, why not make her a DIY spa gift with items you can find in the green market and your pantry.  Here are some of my favorites!

Rosey Peppermint Muscle Soak

What it does:  Epsom salt relaxes the nervous system, relieves achey muscles, and reduces stress.

Ingredients:

1 quart epsom salt

1/4 cup sea salt

10 drops red food coloring

6 drops rose water

5 drops peppermint oil

Mix well and place in a pretty jar.  To use: just add a scoop to the bath.

Raspberry parfacial mask

What it does:  The oatmeal absorbs oil naturally while calming irritated skin. Raspberries contain vitamin c which helps skin produce collagen and stay elastic.

Ingredients:

1 cup pureed raspberries

1/4 cup honey

1 cup rolled oats

Mix welll and store in a pretty jar.  Lasts up to two weeks.

To use: Apply to face, leave on for 5 minutes, rinse well.

Strawberry Orange Scrub

What it does:  Oranges, rich in vitamin c and alpha hydroxy acids, smooth and soften hands while strawberry seeds exfoliate dead skin.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon orange juice

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon sugar

2 crushed strawberries

1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix welll and store in a pretty jar.  Lasts up to two weeks.  To use:  Apply to wet hands and wash hands as you would with soap.

Lemon Hair Mist

What it does:  The hint of lemon juice can give hair a little boost of highlight and the mist will protect hair if mom goes swimming in the pool this summer.

Ingredients:

1 cup warm water

4 teaspoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix welll and put the mixture in a spritz bottle.  Lasts up to one month.  To use:  Spritz hair with the mist before going into the sun or pool.

Grapefruit Mint Tea Toner

What it does:  Grapefruit juice is rich in vitamin c, which will tone and brighten the skin. Witch hazel is a mild astringent that removes excess dirt, oil, and makeup.  The mint tea freshens and wakes up the skin.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup Mint tea at room temperature

1/4 cup witch hazel

1/4 cup grapefruit juice fresh or bottled

Mix welll and put the mixture in a spritz bottle or a jar.  Lasts up to one month.  To use:  Apply to cotton ball and wipe across face to remove dirt and oil.
